Accused rapist pleads guilty to indecent assault after WPI fraternity attack

WORCESTER — It’s been a year and a half since a Worcester Polytechnic Institute student says she was raped at a fraternity house, but her alleged attacker will not serve any time in prison and will not have to register as a sex offender.

“That night left me with psychical bruises all over my body,” the victim said, reading from the impact statement she delivered in court.

Boston 25 News is not identifying the victim, who was an 18-year-old freshman at the time, but she did share her story.

“I no longer felt safe at my own school. Looking back, I was just like a kid at the time,” she said.

In January 2016, she was attending a party at the Sigma Alpha Epsilon house. After a night of drinking she went to get her jacket in a room belonging to 19-year-old Luke Brady, a sophomore from Connecticut.

She says Brady raped her, leaving bruises on her legs and bite marks on her lip. The emotional wounds are even more painful.

“I have been very depressed. I have a hard time. I was a good student and now I still struggle with a lot of my classes and it's taken a huge financial toll on my family,” she said.

The victim didn't push for a trial for fear it would only compound her worry and stress. Instead, Brady pleaded guilty to indecent assault and battery and assault

He will serve two and a half years of probation with a GPS monitoring device.

“I would like to see a heavier punishment, but at the same time there is a validation in knowing that he has said on record that he did commit this crime,” the victim said.

Brady was expelled from WPI two months after the attack. He’s now attending another prestigious technical engineering college in Indiana.

The victim remains a student at WPI and said that while her grades and athletics have suffered, she’s trying to get back on track.
