ACUSHNET, Mass. — An Acushnet man convicted of a 1993 school shooting allegedly seriously injured his 88-year-old father during a suspected domestic assault Tuesday.
Police were called to a hospital to speak with the alleged victim, who said David Taber rammed him in the driveway of his home on Lake Street on Tuesday.

Sixty-six-year-old Taber allegedly took his father's cellphone when he attempted to call police during the assault, and refused to give the phone back until Thursday.
The police officer who interviewed the victim observed injuries including bruises, abrasions and small lacerations.
Officers pulled Taber over shortly after he left his home Thursday evening. At some point, police said Taber turned into the driveway of a home, made a U-turn and accelerated his vehicle over the lawn, through shrubs and slammed into a police cruiser head-on.

Both vehicles were damaged in the crash.

Taber was then arrested and charged with assault and battery on a family member over 60, assault and battery with injury to a person over 60, intimidating a witness, failure to stop, assault with a deadly weapon and negligent operation of a motor vehicle and resisting arrest.
