• 7 transported to hospital after deck collapses in Roxbury

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Seven people were transported to the hospital Friday night after a deck collapsed at a three family home in Boston.

Boston fire officials say the incident happened just before 11 p.m. at 1538 Tremont Street in Roxbury. The third floor deck collapsed into the second.

Investigators say between 10 and 12 people were injured in the collapse, some of whom were treated at the scene. Fire officials say the seven people who were brought to the hospital sustained what are considered minor injuries.

One of the residents, Gage Delprete, tells FOX 25 he had friends over after an art opening. The graduate student shares the apartment with three roommates.

"All of us were in mid-conversation and suddenly the porch gave way," Delprete described to FOX 25.

Delprete tells FOX 25 his friends suffered cuts, bruises, and one had a broken ankle.

"Luckily for me I wasn't pinned or anything, I just think that in the fall something hit me," said Delprete, who suffered cuts to his arms and face. "I'm very fortunate to be able to stand and walk, be healthy."

Boston Inspectional Services says the cause of the collapse is under investigation and violations are forthcoming for the owner, but no monetary fines will be issued. The owner has been identified as Melbourne Street Partners, LLP. by a posting in the building. Inspectional Services tells FOX 25 the owner is hiring an engineer to determine the stability of the structure.
