SCOTT COUNTY, MO (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Seven people were injured Saturday morning after two trains collided and a nearby highway overpass partially collapsed in Scott County, MO.
FOX 2 in St. Louis reports the trains collided at about 2:30 a.m. between Scott City and Rockview. The trains derailed, striking a pillar under the overpass, which caused the overpass to partially collapse.
Two cars were on the overpass at the time of the collapse. A photo taken at the scene shows both cars stuck between the slabs of broken highway.
Five people from both cars were transported to the hospital, as well as two people from one of the two trains. All, but one of those injured were released from the hospital by late Saturday morning.
The collision is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board.
The crash comes just over one week after two trains collided near Bridgeport, Conn. Gov. Dan Malloy said 60 people were taken to the hospital after that crash, which tied up Northeast travel through the weekend.
