6-year-old Rhode Island boy found safe in Washington state

WOONSOCKET, R.I. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Missing 6-year-old Daniel Britt of Rhode Island was found in Washington state Thursday.

The Amber Alert issued for Britt Tuesday was canceled when police say the boy and his mother, who took off with the 6-year-old, were located safely in Island County, Washington. The young boy was with the Department of Youth Services being evaluated as of Thursday night and may be reunited with his father Friday.

The boy's mother, Andria Britt, was taken into custody and will face fugitive from justice charges, and possibly other charges as well, Woonsocket Police said in a press conference. She will appear in court Friday.

Andria never returned her son to his father after a visit last week. She took off with the young boy and drove her car to a "certain location" and then had help getting to Washington, police allege.

The boy's father Sean Britt spoke at a press conference Thursday night and thanked people for support and positive messages.

He said he thought that Andria was going to take Daniel to Washington state because he knew that her family lived there.

"I thought that all along," he said.

He went on to say that he didn't stop smiling when he learned that Daniel was safe.

"I was just happy," he said.
