6 months after Boston Marathon bombings, survivors are moving on

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – After six months of battling back - fighting for victories and fighting back from setbacks - survivors of the Boston Marathon bombings are proving they are moving forward.

Forever changed by their injuries, but nonetheless, it's starting to feel like the "new normal" for them. They have appeared on numerous newscasts and at many events showing the world that their eyes are on the future and not the past.

Jane Richard

Jane, 7, is singing again after her brother, Martin, was killed in the bombings on April 15, 2013. Jane herself is learning how to use her new prosthetic leg, while leading a children's choir before Sunday night's ALCS game in Boston.

No doubt that beautiful voice and that near miracle win by the Sox gave the Richard family and the world hope.

Lee Ann Yanni

The Chicago Marathon also took place Sunday, and several of the runners there were injured in the Boston Marathon bombings, including Lee Ann Yanni who wore a "Boston Strong" t-shirt.

Yanni's lower leg was shattered in the bombing. She went through skin grafts and three surgeries to remove shrapnel and dead muscle, and then had to relearn how to even walk.

Yet, six months later, not only did she run, but she ran all 26.2 miles, determined to make sure the terrorists didn't destroy her dreams.

Heather Abbott

Even though marathons are not survivor Heather Abbott's thing, she sat down with FOX 25's Maria Stephanos on the debut of the FOX 25 News at 5 p.m. last Monday and showed off the new running prosthetic leg she had just been fitted for the day before.

Abbott explained she now has several legs: a prosthetic with a flat foot, one for daily use, a waterproof leg for showering and swimming, and even a leg to wear with high heels.

Abbot also opened up about her personal journey through the healing process, and how she is handling it all.
