$5K reward offered in 2nd Rockland fire in two weeks

ROCKLAND, Mass. — Two fires have broken out in abandoned Rockland buildings in just two weeks, and the fire department is concerned.

Rockland Fire Chief Scott Duffey told FOX25 the fires are still under investigation, but both broke out in buildings without people living or working in them.

While it’s too early to tell a cause and there’s no evidence they’re connected, fire officials are concerned that two have broken out in buildings without utilities.

The chief told FOX25 there is likely some human involvement, whether that’s arson, someone leaving a lit cigarette or a person starting a fire to keep warm.

The state fire marshal’s office says the fires have some evidence of human involvement, they have not been ruled ‘suspicious’ or ‘not suspicious.’

The state fire marshal's office has put up signs outside the home that went up in flames Tuesday morning offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
