5-alarm fire ravages South Hadley marina

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (AP) — The owner of a South Hadley marina severely damaged by a five-alarm fire says he plans to reopen as soon as possible.

The fire at family-owned Brunelle's Marina was reported at about 7 a.m. Friday. There were no reports of injuries.

Owner Luke Brunelle says the marina's Dockside Restaurant appears to be a total loss, but he vows to rebuild.

The cause is under investigation, but Fire Capt. Brian McClaffin says it appears to have started in the restaurant's kitchen then spread to a large warehouse building.

Marina workers moved several boats out of harm's way before the fire spread.

The family has owned and operated the marina on the Connecticut River since 1959.

Crews from several area department helped battle the blaze.
