BOSTON (AP)- Boston fire officials say a five-alarm blaze gutted a triple-decker residence in the city's Allston section, sending one occupant to the hospital for smoke inhalation treatment.
Boston Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald says firefighters found the home's porches engulfed in flames after answering a 7:12 a.m. Sunday alarm for the fire at 17 Mansfield St.
He says firefighters fought to keep flames from spreading to buildings on either side, which had some damage, but are inhabitable.
Fire officials say the adult who went to the hospital didn't have a life-threatening injury, but the blaze displaced 18 adults and one child who lived in the building's three apartments.
MacDonald says the Red Cross is helping the residents and fire investigators are probing the blaze's cause.
