Police: Suspects beat Bridgewater man, forced him to withdraw money

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. — A 56-year-old man is recovering after a home invasion and armed robbery that happened early Thursday morning.

The victim told police three black men, two armed with handguns, broke into his home on Spring Street between 1 and 2 a.m.

Bridgewater police said the suspects blindfolded the victim, forced him into a vehicle, and then drove him to several banks, where they forced him to withdraw money using his ATM card.

The man was then dropped off in the middle of the woods, and eventually made his way to a nearby convenience store.

Police said the man had serious injuries as a result of the suspects beating him and was taken to Brockton Hospital.

"He had welts on his face from being pistol whipped, and he still had some rope tied around his ankle," the victim's roommate said.

The roommate said he believes the victim may have been followed home from a nearby bar.

Surveillance images from one bank show a light-skinned black man covering his face with a coat and holding the victim’s ATM card. A light-colored vehicle can also be seen.

If anyone has any information on this incident they are urged to contact the Bridgewater Police Department at 508-697-6118.
