3 killed in Westport in 5-vehicle crash

WESTPORT, Mass. — Three people were killed Wednesday in a multi-car crash on Route 195 east in Westport.

The crash happened just before 8:15 a.m. in between Exits 10 and 11.

Police believe a Dodge Caravan livery driver in the westbound lane crossed the Route 195 median, hitting a 2007 BMW 328I in the eastbound lane head-on.

After hitting the BMW, the Dodge Caravan rolled. A Subaru Outback struck the BMW and then caught fire. An AUDI A4 was struck by the livery and a Chevrolet Suburban was also hit by one of the vehicles.

Two occupants in the Dodge Caravan were killed, as well as one in the BMW, a 23-year-old New Bedford woman

Two passengers in the BMW, a 25-year-old Fall River man and a toddler from New Bedford survived but were taken to the hospital with injuries. A third person in the livery was injured, but not fatally.

The driver of the Subaru and Audi both suffered minor injuries.

Part of Route 195 and the left lane of the westbound side were closed down following the crash but have since reopened.

UPDATE: Police say the driver of the Dodge Caravan has been identified as John Oliveria, 68, of Dartmouth. The Passenger of the Caravan has been identified as Josephine Mazzocca, 55, of New Bedford. The front seat-passenger of the BMW has been identified as Karonlyne Camile Lima, 23, of New Bedford.
