BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – Three members of the Boston School Committee have missed at least 25 percent of the board's meetings since the beginning of 2011, according to a new report in the Boston Herald.
The newspaper says Alfreda Harris missed 17 of the board's 48 meetings, while John Barros skipped 14 and Claudio Martinez was absent 12 times.
The committee has seven members, all appointed by Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino. Each is allowed to receive a stipend of $7,500 a year.
Harris told the Herald that her absences are due to health problems and bad weather.
Barros told the paper he'd have to go back and look to see why he'd missed meetings.
There was no comment from Martinez.
