2nd suspect in Peabody double murder arrested in South Carolina

PEABODY, Mass. — The second suspect in a Peabody double murder has been arrested in South Carolina.

Police said Wes Doughty was arrested around 3:30 p.m. Friday in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

According to Mass. State Police, Doughty was arrested for panhandling, and while he was being booked officers discovered he was wanted for the double murder.

A vehicle Doughty had stolen in Boston was also found in the area of his arrest.

A source told FOX25 that the stolen Honda Doughty was believed to be traveling in was also found nearby.

A gruesome crime scene

Doughty was wanted in connection to the murder of two people whose bodies were found wrapped up in the basement of a Peabody home over the weekend.

Police described the crime scene as "messy and cluttered," saying they needed to use an x-ray machine to determine how many victims there were.

The two victims were identified Monday morning as 37-year-old Mark Greenlaw and 39-year-old Jennifer O'Connor. The two victims were in a dating relationship and lived together in the Farm Street home where their bodies were found.

Michael Hebb, 45, of Peabody, was arrested Monday afternoon and charged with two counts of first degree murder.

Tracking Doughty

On Wednesday, Doughty allegedly carjacked a man in Middleton and held him captive in the vehicle for three hours. During that time, Doughty allegedly told the victim why he killed Greenlaw and O'Connor.

“He said he killed them because they gave heroin to his godfather. He said his godfather was really loopy and he didn't want him to be addicted to heroin,” carjacking victim Ken Mentz explained.

O'Connor's sister posted on Facebook that she is relieved about the arrest.

“My family and I are feeling a sense of relief tonight knowing that Wes has been caught. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the law enforcement officers... We now have some closure,” Julie Trueira, O’connor’s sister said.
