2 Walpole officers injured in hit and run crash, suspect arrested

WALPOLE, Mass. — Two Walpole Police officers are recovering after they were involved in a hit and run crash.

Those same officers were able to pursue and arrest the suspect after a short chase.

“I was in shock, I thought I was getting pranked at first,” Marc Glasman, a Papa Gino’s delivery driver who was also involved in the crash, said.

The crash happened Monday afternoon at the intersection of High Plain and Washington streets.

“I'm just making a delivery. I'm at a red light, I hear a horrifying noise metal against metal,” Glasman said. “I get pushed into a car in front of me. I'm horrified.”

Police say John Undzis slammed into Glasman’s SUV, pushing it into the car in front of him that had two undercover officers inside.

“I'm getting ready to get out of the car to explain myself to the person in front of me. Who is probably about to kill me. He was very furious at me, wants to know why I crashed my car into his and then they went off,” Glasman said.

Police said the chase with Undzis reached speeds above 80 mph.

“It was very dangerous, as you know the road condition, there is a lot of black ice out there and the snowbanks,” Walpole Police Chief John Carmichael said.

After the crash, Glasman said Undzis had no remorse.

“He drove off, he gave me and the person I crashed into a happy little wave and drove off. You asked if I have anything to say that, I just think it's great they got a taste of some street justice,” Glasman said.

The officers were taken to Norwood hospital for an evaluation. They have some whiplash and will be OK.
