2 teens expected to survive after being hit by car at Roxbury Crossing

BOSTON — Two teenagers were taken to the hospital after a serious crash in Boston.

The crash happened around 11 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Tremont Street. and Malcolm X Boulevard at Roxbury Crossing.

Boston Police Commissioner William Evans says four kids were crossing the street when a car lost control. A 15-year old boy and 16-year-old girl were hit; the boy was trapped under the vehicle and the girl was thrown several feet through the air. Both teens were taken to Boston Children's Hospital with serious injuries - one was in critical condition - but are expected to survive.

"We just heard the loud noise when the car hit the pole," said one witness. "We came out of the train and we were walking and then all of a sudden we just heard this big bang."

A woman and her husband jumped out of their car after seeing the white Honda hit the teens before crashing into the pole in the media.

"My husband and I just went to pray. That was pretty much it because we know that prayer helps so he went to the guy and I went to the girl," said the woman who wished to stay anonymous.

One witness told Boston 25 News she believes the snapped pole saved the boy's life, and prevent the car from resting fully on top of him.

The crash shut down the intersection near Roxbury Community College Tuesday afternoon.

"I don't know if it was medical or some type of distracted driving," said BPD Commissioner Evans. "It looks like they were in the crosswalk at the time."

Boston police are reviewing surveillance video, including video captured by a car driving by. It's unclear what caused the driver to crash and police are questioning the driver, who was also taken to an area hospital.
