2 pit bulls in custody after biting person, chasing jogger

BOSTON — Two dogs are in police custody after neighbors said the pit bulls chased two people in two days, biting one of them.

"My immediate thought was, get them off of you, you don't want them continuing to bite," said Aisha West, a victim.

Nearby residents said this is an ongoing problem.

"Anytime somebody pass by, they rush the gate," said Andrea Graves, a neighbor.

Graves says it's well known on Laurient Street in Dorchester to steer clear of the pit bulls.

"The mailman don't even want to go there, so that tells you something," he said.

Friday morning, Boston police seized the dogs after they say the pit bulls broke free from their fence, chased a woman jogging and then lunged at responding officers.

The day before, the dogs chased Aisha West while she was walking and bit her legs, yanking her to the ground.

"I just saw blood gushing from my arms and I started screaming," said West.

Boston 25 News obtained pages of documents from animal control that show neighbors have complained about the dogs for years.

In August 2015, one dog bit a child, according to reports. The owner signed the dogs over to the city, but just four days later, the owner was allowed to claim his dogs, telling the city he was moving to Milton.

Neighbors say that move never happened.

"The city needs to do something, either they need to put in a fence, or they need to get taken away because it's not fair for them to be biting people," said Graves.

Boston 25 News tried to speak to the owner Friday, but hasn't heard back.

The pit bulls will remain at animal control for the time being.
