HOLYOKE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A Springfield man has been arrested in connection with a fatal car crash that occurred at the intersection of Beech and Dwight streets in Holyoke early Sunday morning.
Jonathan Lopez, 21, is charged with failure to stop for red lens (two counts), motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation (five counts), and leaving the scene of personal injury or death.
Officers responded to the two-car crash at about 1:57 a.m. The crash involved two cars: a black 2010 Honda Civic and a white 1997 Cadillac Seville.
The Holyoke Fire Department used the "jaws of life" to remove victims from the Honda Civic. A 23-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were pronounced dead at the scene. Two other occupants, a 23-year-old man and a 24-year-old man, were transported to Baystate Medical Center and are listed in stable condition.
Occupants of the white Cadillac Seville were not present when officers arrived; however, following an initial investigation, Lopez was arrested.
The crash remains under investigation.
