2 arrested after allegedly beating, raping victims during home invasion

BARNSTABLE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Two men were arrested after three victims were violently beaten and one was sexually assaulted during a home invasion in Barnstable Friday.

At about 2:10 a.m., police responded to a report of an armed home invasion at 2 Keating Road in Hyannis. Three masked suspects broke into the home through a locked basement door, officials say. They went to the first floor living area where they found a man, who was the homeowner, and two women, who were guests.

The suspects were armed and attacked the three victims by violently beating them with baseball bats, officials say. While attacking them, the suspects allegedly demanded money from the victims and sexually assaulted one of the women.

The man was able to escape and run to a neighbor's house for help.

Police quickly began an investigation and located Justin Garber, 20, of Hyannis and Steven Roderick, 34, of Hyannis close to the crime scene. Garber was linked to the crime with forensic evidence and placed under arrest.

Roderick was arrested after his car, which contained evidence related to this and other crimes, was found in the neighborhood.

Both Roderick and Garber are being charged with three counts of armed home invasion, three counts of masked armed robbery and one count of aggravated rape. They were arraigned Friday. Roderick was held on $200,000 bail and Garber was held on $100,000.

The investigation remains ongoing and more arrests and charges are expected.
