18-year-old charged with negligent homicide in crash that killed Somerville officer

EPPING, N.H. — An 18-year-old accused of causing the crash that killed a Somerville Police officer has been charged with negligent homicide.

Rockingham County prosecutor Patricia Conway filed affidavits Tuesday alleging Michael Ricci was reckless and negligent when he used a crossover to make a U turn onto I-95 southbound.

According to Conway, Ricci used the crossover, which is marked closed to unauthorized vehicles, and placed the Officer Louis Remigio in danger.

In a stament, police officers who investigated the crash said witnesses told them Ricci was driving erratically and that he and three other drivers appeared to be racing each other.

Police say Ricci and the other drivers were headed to the New Hampshire Dragway and used the turnaround apparently to make it back to the exit that would take them there.

But when Ricci used the turnaround, police say he pulled out in front of Remigio’s motorcycle, which slammed into the rear corner of his car.

Police said Remigio flipped over the motorcycle and landed in the road. Another vehicle also hit Ricci’s car and rolled over, according to police. Two people in that car were injured, police said.

Five total vehicles were involved in the crash, according to police.

Ricci has also been charged with assault in relation to the crash.
