ANDOVER, Mass. — A 17-year-old Phillips Academy Andover student was hit and killed by a commuter rail train Tuesday evening, according to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office.

Transit police halted trains through Andover shortly after the 17-year-old was hit before 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Investigators took over the tracks along Andover Street when EMS rushed the boy to Lawrence General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The DA’s office will not release the student’s name because he is under 18. Though officials confirm he is an Andover resident and a day student at the school.

The death is the second in four months on that Commuter Rail line to Haverhill and the fourth overall in recent months.
