16-year-old that made threats, referenced school shooting arrested in Methuen

A 16-year-old Methuen boy who allegedly made threat and referenced a school shooting has been arrested, police said.

Mayor James Jajuga and police Chief Joseph Solomon said in a joint statement that the unidentified student was arrested Monday.

Police said they were called to the high school around 2 p.m., and when they arrived they were told that the 10th grade student made disturbing remarks to other students, including referenced to bullets, death and a mass-shooting at the school.

As a result of the investigation, the teen was arrested.

He was charged with threats concerning dangerous items and disturbance in a school.

Police said no weapons were found during a search of the teen's home, and there are no firearms licensed to anyone who lives at the home.

"This is an excellent example of See Something, Say Something," Jajuga said. "In this instance, students heard disturbing remarks about committing violence at school, and they spoke up immediately. This is one of the ways we keep our community and our schools safe."

The teen will be arraigned in Lawrence Juvenile Court.
