14-year-old girl charged with arson at Dorchester roller rink

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – A 14-year-old girl has been charged with arson in connection to a fire Saturday night at a popular Dorchester roller rink.

Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said the Mattapan teen, whose name will not be released because of her age, set the front door of Chez Vous on fire after being denied entry.

The girl was arraigned Monday in the juvenile session of Dorchester District Court. She was released to the custody of her grandmother with orders to abide by a 5 p.m. curfew, attend school each day and arrive on time, and stay away from the scene of the incident and any witnesses.

Boston police, firefighters and investigators of the joint Fire Investigation Unit responded to the Rhoades Street roller rink at about 10 p.m. for an arson report. About 120 people were inside. No one was injured and the fire was put down quickly by employees. Damage was estimated at about $3,000.

Video surveillance and witness reports implicated the girl.

Chez Vous staff told investigators that the teen had been barred from the roller rink for 30 days for fighting with and making threats toward other patrons.

The teen is due back in court on May 29.
