14 Horses dead following NH barn fire

BEDFORD, N.H. (AP) — Firefighters say 14 horses have died following a barn fire in Bedford, N.H.

Another eight horses, two goats and a pig were able to escape the fire Thursday morning in the 10,000-square-foot barn.

Officials said the fire broke out just before 8:30 a.m. A passing jogger saw smoke and called 911.

Fire officials said the barn's owners, a mother and her daughter, were home when the fire broke out but didn't realize what was happening because their property was so large.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion. Officials were trying to determine the cause.
