108-year-old Cubs fan in NH finally sees a World Series championship

SUNAPEE, N.H. — Hazel Nilson, a 108-year-old woman living in Sunapee, is the definition of a long-suffering fan. The diehard Chicago Cubs fan has been waiting her entire life to see her team win the World Series.

“This year I've been pulling like crazy....one more game,” she said.

She’s seen two world wars, the Great Depression, and the early days of the automobile, but a baseball championship for her favorite team has been elusive.

“Don't ask me how I got there. I say the band of angels coming after me got lost,” she said.

She spent her childhood in Chicago, right near Wrigley Field. Through thick and thin, she’s always been with her favorite team.

“I never lost faith in the Cubs,” she said. “Win or lose, I love them.”

On Wednesday night as the Cubs and Indians faced off in Game 7, Hazel was up watching, cheering for Chicago until nearly 1 a.m. when they finally won the World Series.
