1 killed, 1 injured in Dorchester shooting

BOSTON — One person has been killed and another injured after being shot Thursday night in Dorchester.

The shooting happened on Blue Hill Avenue around 6:45 p.m.

One victim, believed to be between 18 and 21 years old, was taken to Boston Medical Center for a gunshot wound to the chest. He was later pronounced dead.

The second victim, a 14-year-old, was shot in the foot.

Police have not arrested any suspects and are currently scouring area businesses for surveillance video that might show the shooting and help identify anyone who was involved.

“I know the mayor and myself and our department, our top priority has been the violence and getting guns off the street but unfortunately as we’ve seen over the last week with the uptick in shootings, we have a lot of work to do,” Boston Police Commissioner William Evans said.

Evans said there is reason to believe both victims were targeted, and the shooting was gang related.
