Liquor store clerk shot in stomach after refusing armed robbers

TAUNTON, Mass. — One person has been taken to the hospital after a shooting at a Taunton liquor store.

The shooting happened around 9 p.m. at Eagan’s Package Store on Cohannett Street during a robbery.

Boston 25 News has learned it was a female clerk who was shot.

State police and K9s have been called in to assist in the search for a suspects.

Police said surveillance shows two male suspects enter the store, then ask the female clerk for money.
“There was a struggle. It was going to be an armed robbery but the female behind the counter refused to give anything up. You could see that there was an argument taking place and she reached for the weapon. He discharged one shot and you can see her go back in the video,” Taunton Police Lt. Paul Roderick said.

Both suspects were hearing hooded sweatshirts and one was covering his face. Police said they believe one of the suspects is a black male and the other a white male.

The clerk is also a co-owner of the liquor store. She was working alone at the time and is listed in serious but stable condition.
