1 dead, 1 missing after Navy helicopter crashes off Virginia coast

NORFOLK, Va. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- One person has died and another remains missing after a U.S. Navy helicopter crashed off the coast of Virginia Wednesday.

The Navy confirmed a MH-53E Sea Dragon went down near the coast of Virginia Beach while conducting routine training operations.

Four personnel were located and transported to the hospital. One of them died and there is no word on the extent of the others' injuries.

The Coast Guard was assisting the Navy in their search for the last missing person both by sea and air.

According to a press release, the helicopter was assigned to the Mine Countermeasures Squadron Fourteen (HM-14) based at Naval Station Norfolk Chambers Field.

The MH-53E, which was originally misidentified by the Navy as a CH-53E, is currently listed as out of production on the Navy's website.
