1 assaulted in East Boston Friday

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Women in an East Boston neighborhood were worried over the weekend after learning of another attack Friday night, with the latest marking four in less than a week.

Police say three women were sexually assaulted Monday between 4:30 and 8:30 p.m. by a man they say was wearing all black and heavily intoxicated. Investigators don't believe the same person was responsible for last night's assault and battery attack, since it is not believed to be sexual in nature.

"It's very worrying but you can't live your life in fear," said Kim Lampereur, who lives on the block the most recent attack occurred. She was out walking alone Saturday night, but said she was more aware of her surroundings and advises other women to do the same.

"Be very careful and know what's going on around you but still don't let it stop you from going out and living your life," Lampereur said. Not every women is able to do that though, and some admitted they're afraid, like Marta Martinez who's lived in East Boston her whole life.

"I stay in a lot, I read the Bible and pray to God that he would change something and that the world would get better," said Martinez as she walked closely with a male friend.

Everyone seemed to do anything they could to stay safe, though several women were walking distracted, with earbuds in the ears or their eyes locked on their smartphone.

Maria Pachon admits she's done it before, saying, "Sometimes, I'm also distracted. You get a phone call, you just keep walking. You're not paying attention, you're unaware and that's when things happen other people are taking advantage of those times".

Boston police were out in force in that neighborhood Saturday night and were actively questioning random groups of men looking for a suspect.
