Teen arrested following Providence Place shooting, say police

PROVIDENCE, RI — A suspect has been arrested in the Providence Place Mall shooting, WPRI-TV is reporting.

Police Chief Hugh Clements told WPRI that a 17-year-old male from Pawtucket has been arrested.

The shooting happened Monday afternoon at the parking garage near Nordstrom. Police said there was a fight outside the Foot Locker and initial investigation shows it was between two groups of kids.

The victim was identified as a 19-year-old man, who suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Several nearby businesses went on lockdown following the shooting.

On Monday evening, police said they were looking for up to 10 suspects. One person was taken into custody for questioning Monday evening. It's unclear if there will be more arrests at this point.

Clements said Monday they “certainly would not rule out gang activity.”
