1 arrested after police find marijuana in Batman backpack

A 21-year-old has been arrested after Boston police found him with a loaded gun and a Batman backpack full of marijuana.

Police saw a car parked on Washington Street in Mattapan and after watching, believed the driver was selling drugs. Officers say they also were informed that an occupant in the car may have a gun.

Police stopped the car and saw a Batman backpack sitting on the driver’s lap. After learning there may be a gun in the car, officers frisked the bag and found several bags of marijuana. Officers asked the driver to get out of the car, which is when the driver told officers he had a loaded gun in his waistband. Officers removed the gun and arrested 21-year-old Derek Gaines-Green.

He’s facing several firearms and drug charges including: unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawfully carrying a loaded firearm and possession with intent to distribute Class D drugs.
