Greenway visitors can charge smart phones with new 'seat-e'

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- City officials unveiled two prototypes of a seat that allows visitors to charge their cell phones via solar power along the Rose Kennedy Greenway Tuesday.

The seat-e solar-powered seat was developed at the MIT Media Lab. It gives visitors to the Greenway a chance to charge their smart phones and also interact with "social lights," which change color based on the use of the seats.

Creators say later models of the seat-e will collect air quality data with sensors that measure smoke, exhaust, and odor.

The seats will remain in the Greenway for the fall and return in the spring with any necessary changes.
