Mass., Ill. senators wager food on Stanley Cup

BOSTON (AP) - Senators from Illinois and Massachusetts have a friendly food wager on the National Hockey League's Stanley Cup series between the Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks.

The stakes were announced in a joint news release from Washington hours before Wednesday's Game 1 in Chicago.

Massachusetts Democrats Elizabeth Warren and William "Mo" Cowan are betting Legal Seafood's chowder and Sam Adams beer. Illinois Democrat Dick Durbin and Republican Mark Kirk are laying down Chicago's Eli's cheesecake and 312 beer from Goose Island Brewery.

Warren said she has faith the Bruins "will show Boston's strength on the ice" and bring the Stanley Cup home. Durbin said the Blackhawks "have captivated the city of Chicago" during an exciting season and he's confident they'll reclaim the cup.

It's the first time Original Six franchises are meeting for the championship since 1979.
