What's up for the Weekend: May 9-11

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – Looking for something to do on Mother's Day? Here are some ideas!

It's lilac Sunday at the Arboretum. With more than 380 lilac plants of 172 kinds, the Arboretum holds one of the premier lilac collections in North America.

And a local mother, who lost her young daughter in a freak accident on the Cape when a bike rack fell on her, has written a book called I am the Rainbow. Gretchen Pyne will have a book signing event on Mother's Day to share her message of hope from grief and the strength of a mother's love. Stop by the Twigs and Tides store on Main Street in Wareham from 12-2 p.m. for the signing.

Also, Franklin Park and Stone Zoos are free for all mothers throughout the day. Be sure to visit all of the resident animal moms at both zoos including Franklin Park Zoo's western lowland gorilla Kiki and her daughters Kimani and Kambiri. At the Stone Zoo, be sure to visit with white-cheeked gibbon Iggy and her offspring Paddy.

Shop for your mom and help homeless animals at the same time! The MSPCA is holding a Mother’s Day floral and bake sale from Friday through Sunday. The sale is at the MSPCA-Angell adoption center in Jamaica Plain and features a colorful variety of flowers, professionally-done arrangements and hanging and potted plants. All of the sales benefit the homeless animals at the MSPCA’s Boston shelter.

Lastly, the Health Yoga Life yoga studio in Boston is offering free yoga for moms on Sunday.
