What's up for the Weekend: May 2-4

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – The SOWA Open Market, a pet adoption event, Somerville Open Studios and more are on tap this weekend.

Cinco de Mayo, that's what's up this weekend! It's a day where Mexican heritage and pride is celebrated. Check out any of our Mexican restaurants in the greater Boston area. There are also Cinco de Mayo pub crawls. Check out Cinco de Drinko by barcrawls.com.

The SOWA Open Market opens up for the season in Boston’s South End this Sunday. There's a food truck court nearby and a farmers market, as well as the arts market, which has all handmade clothes, jewelry and decor. They set up little tent canopies, so as long as you have an umbrella or raincoat you can venture out.

This Friday night is the Taste of the North End where more than 35 North End restaurants will be serving up food at the ice rink on Commercial Street. It is pricey, $99 per person, but because it's a fundraiser all the money goes to North End non-profit organizations.

Paws in Wakefield is having an adoption event at Petsmart in Danvers Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and they will be bringing in some fostered cats who are not usually on display there. If you can't make it to the adoption event, you can always go to the VCA Wakefield Animal Hospital on a Saturday for their adoption hours or make an appointment to adopt a new furry friend.

Somerville Open Studios is this weekend, and according to their Twitter page it's the largest open art studio event in the US. You can see work from over 400 artists and they are kicking off the weekend with the Beyond the Pattern fashion show Thursday night.

Another artsy thing, if you see frenzied filmmakers running around Boston, they're part of the 48 Hour Film Project where teams compete to make a short film in just two days from start to finish. They all get a prop character and line of dialogue and then pull their genre from a hat.

Just a reminder, if you have something going on tweet @Fox25Ashley or @Sorbonified and let us know. You may see it on the air!
