What's up for the Weekend: June 27-29

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – What are you doing this weekend? Need to make some plans? Here are some ideas!

Got a need for speed this weekend ? You can head up to Louden, N.H. and hit the New Hampshire Motor Speedway. There are classes all weekend allowing you to get behind the wheel of a Nascar style stock car and you can drive up to 130 mph on a real race track. Ever done that before?

And Director and Choreographer Debbie Allen was recently on FOX 25 promoting the production that held auditions for local kids in Boston a few months ago opens this weekend in the city. The play is called Brother of Knight and it’s based on 12 dancing princesses, and it’s at the Cutler Majestic Theater.

Billy Joel takes the stage at Fenway Thursday, followed by The Zac Brown Band Friday and Saturday.

And the oldest commercial ship still afloat, the last wooden whale ship in the world sails into New Bedford. The Charles W. Morgan launched from the Whaling City in 1841 and made its last visit during WW2. So to welcome it back the city of New Bedford will host several days of celebrations, activities, access aboard the whale ship and dockside exhibitions, beginning with the official homecoming celebration on State Pier.

Sticking with boats for a minute, Captain Ralph Wilkins of Wicked Tuna is in town to promote a local charity event "Cruising for a Cause," which takes place Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at West Marine's new flagship store in Braintree to raise money for local nonprofits. There will be a live auction and you can bid on a 4-hour charter with Captain Ralph on his boat Odysea, or things like a Boston Harbor boat cruise donated by Freedom Boat Club and a standup paddling package. The tickets cost $10.

And don't forget to join the FOX 25 morning crew Friday for this week's zip trip to Brookfield. We'll show you what makes this town special, including some very famous cows, Elsie and Elmer; classic comfort food; and more. They will be live on the Brookfield Town Common starting at 6 a.m.!
